Accepting New Clients in OH and MA!
So maybe you want to know more about Zack and his background, but you’re too nervous to ask?
If you are the kind of person who likes to know the mechanics of how your therapist works before scheduling a session, you are in the right place. Here is a deeper look into my clinical background, my advocacy work, and the human sitting on the other side of the screen.
Advanced Clinical Training & Education I earned my Master of Education in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Cleveland State University in 2018. Since then, I have dedicated my career to expanding my clinical toolbox to handle complex trauma and systemic barriers.
Doctoral Student: In Fall 2025, I began my doctoral studies (PsyD) in Counseling Psychology to further elevate the quality of care and specialized services I can offer my clients.
Trauma Specialization: I am a certified EMDR therapist, utilizing this structured, evidence-based modality to help clients safely process deep-rooted trauma.
Clinical Supervision: As a licensed Training Supervisor in Ohio (LPCC-S), my mission is to mentor fellow counselors and reduce the educational gap in providing competent care for transgender clients, neurodivergent individuals, and harm-reduction practices for addiction. I am currently completing the requirements to provide supervision in Massachusetts as well.
A Foundation in Community Mental Health Before opening Dryad Counseling as a full-time, specialized private practice, I spent over seven years working in the trenches of community mental health. My roles ranged from providing frontline outpatient treatment and complex assessments to serving as the interim head of an outpatient psychiatry department.
Beyond formal clinical settings, I also have years of experience with Employee Assistance Programs (EAPs) and have consulted and presented on topics regarding the transgender lived experience, queer issues, and clinician compassion fatigue.
Advocacy & Systemic Disruption Therapy does not happen in a vacuum; mental health is deeply impacted by systemic oppression. Advocacy is central to who I am as a clinician and a human.
At the university level, I played a pivotal role in policy changes benefiting LGBTQIA+ and graduate students.
I served as a crisis intervention volunteer for the Cleveland Rape Crisis Center.
I actively fight for equity through protests, community town halls, and direct political action—including advocating for federal Medicare coverage for licensed counselors and cross-state license portability to expand access to care.
(Note: My commitment to protecting my clients from systemic overreach is the driving force behind Dryad Counseling’s transition to a "Privacy-First" model, ensuring your clinical data remains secure from third-party tech and insurance algorithms).
Beyond the Office: The Human Element To be an effective therapist, I have to practice what I preach about work-life balance and self-care. I prioritize my own well-being so that I can show up fully for my clients.
Outside of work, I’m a proud nerd who loves gaming, deep-diving into niche YouTube essays, and integrating geek culture into therapy when it fits. My partner of eight years and I share a goal of visiting every National Park in the country.
Our home is a chaotic, joyful sanctuary filled with the energy of our four guinea pigs and a constant rotation of foster animals. We are not immune to the "foster fail" pitfall; our family currently includes a hefty cat with behavioral quirks and four rats (all from local shelters). You will very likely see the cat during our sessions, as she insists on staying in my office and occasionally startles me by jumping into my lap mid-sentence.
Above all, I am dedicated to providing authentic, genuine care. Choosing a therapist is a major investment of your time, energy, and resources. If you’re wondering whether my clinical style is the right fit for your needs, please reach out via email below.
